Does Acne Slayer by Slayer Skincare Really Work?

Is acne a significant problem? If so, you’re probably looking for skincare solutions that work. If you’re considering Acne Slayer by Slayer Skincare, you should learn more about what this product does. As well as what actually does work for oily skin ravaged by acne!

Acne is not fun for anyone!

I have had acne outbreaks my entire adult life. it is really hard for me to find a good combination of products to help ease breakouts. My skin tends to work with a product for a while, then stops. Forcing me to seek alternatives until enough time has passed, I can go back to what worked in the past. It’s a vicious cycle.

I was super excited to try Acne Slayer by Slayer Skincare, as it’s something new I can add to my routine. But does it actually work to combat pimples and acne breakouts, as it claims?

What is Acne Slayer?

A formula meant to combat pimples, this product claims to also help with “Rudolph red nose,” exfoliate dead skin cells, and a host of other beneficial properties, such as…

  • Skin Regeneration
  • Antifungal
  • Antimicrobial
  • Antibacterial
  • Antiviral
  • Analgesic – relief from pain

…just to name them.

These skin benefits are from the plant-based extracts that Slayer Skincare has created, called DermaVine® …but is this actually good for your skin?

Let’s Look At The Ingredients!

The listed ingredients within Acne Slayer are as follows…

  • Isopropyl Alcohol
  • Alcohol Dent
  • Water
  • (Blue)CL42090
  • (Yellow)CL19140
  • DermaVine®, the proprietary blend of plant-based extracts and oils

The Problem with Alcohol-Based Skincare Products

The worst thing we can do to our skin, whether we suffer from acne or not, makes our skin problems worse by applying the wrong products. A lot of skincare products contain alcohol. That doesn’t mean alcohol is good for your skin, it’s actually quite the opposite.

Here is a great article on alcohol in skincare and why it’s so bad for you. But in summary, if you have acne problems and oily skin like I do, please don’t use alcohol! It’s known to dehydrate the skin and strip it of natural oils and cause more damage than good. Over time, the use of isopropyl alcohol can even enlargen pores and increase oils and grease (which those of us with already naturally oily skin don’t need).

It’s worth noting the directions on the bottle of Acne Slayer mention the “tingling sensation” when the formula is applied. That’s from the alcohol drying out the skin! And if you have super sensitive skin, this can (and probably will) be painful.  Unfortunately, while many claim rubbing alcohol is great for acne, there isn’t enough sound scientific evidence of truth to back up these claims.

Given the order the ingredients of Acne Slayer are listed, there likely isn’t enough of the plant extracts to balance out what the alcohol content is doing for the long-term effects of the skin either.

But Did Acne Slayer Work For Me?

I always give every product an honest try, even after researching ingredients. I was super excited to see if this would work for my skin, even on a short-term basis.

Unfortunately, all Acne Slayer did was dry out my face, which even with a solid moisturizer after using, caused more breakouts! As skincare products with a large amount of alcohol usually do with my combination oily/dry skin. The burn was also extreme and caused redness, which has me curious how this product could help “Rudolph red nose” when it gave me a red nose.

What does work for acne?

According to the Mayo Clinic, Benzoyl Peroxide and Salicylic Acids are very effective. These ingredients I have actually found great success in!

Conclusion

Slayer Skincare’s Acne Slayer just didn’t work for me – the ingredients dried out my skin, causing more breakouts, and just didn’t work for my particular type of skin. Upon further research, I don’t think it’s right for me.

Whenever you do use harsh products that draw moisture away from your skin, it’s super important you use a very strong moisturizer. Hyaluronic Acid tends to be my go-to in these situations.

If you want to try this to see if it works for you, that’s perfectly valid as there are many different types of skin out there! You can check out Acne Slayer here.
