Bacon, Lettuce, Tomato (BLT) Sandwich
Ingredients:
- Sliced Bread (I’m using whole wheat)
- Thick Cut Bacon
- Head of Lettuce
- 1-2 vine ripened Tomatoes
- French’s Fried Onion
- Gulden’s Spicy Brown Mustard
Step 1: Cook Your Bacon
Everyone likes their bacon cooked differently. Some prefer burnt to a crisp. Others, like myself, want it slightly crispy, but still bendy and not too overcooked.
Whatever your preference, it doesn’t matter. Neither does the type of bacon you want – maple, smoked, or low sodium.
But for a sturdy BLT Sandwich, I suggest thick-cut. Why? because thinner cuts of bacon tend to shrivel when frying. This will require you to cook more bacon per the size and amount of sandwiches you’re making.
But, I’m not telling you how to live your life. Just fry the bacon. Continue to Step 2.
Step 2: Prep Your Lettuce and Tomatoes
Again, the portions needed will vary by the amount of sandwiches you’re making. But pro tip: it’s way cheaper to just buy a whole head of lettuce and use the remaining for other things.
Wash your lettuce leaves and slice your tomato. I like thicker slices of tomato for my sandwiches, but again, it’s all your preference. Vine ripened tomatoes make the juiciest sandwich!
If everything is sliced and cooked, move on to Step 3.
Step 3: Build Your Sandwich and Add The Twist Ingredient!
You can add one thing to give a classic BLT a new twist!
French’s French Fried Onions will give any BLT a crispy, tangy flavor! I lay mine near the top of the sandwich as a garnish, and then smother with Spicy Brown Mustard!
Gulden’s is my favorite Spicy Brown Mustard, but French’s is also an excellent alternative!

If you want to add for more condiments, like mayonnaise, that’s also totally your preference!
But try my secret ingredients and let me know how your Classic BLT turns out!
This recipe looks great. Unfortunately we don’t eat bacon, so maybe we can make it for bacon loving friends.
Yummy! I love BLTs but I have never eaten it with mustard and onions so I definitely have to try that!
