Makeup Application Tips for the Summer

The summer season is nearly here, and it’s the perfect time to try out a new personal look! But while you’re experimenting with your style, make sure that your beauty routine accounts for the heat. Just like we need to switch out our spring wardrobes to something more temperature accommodating, it’s also important to adjust how we apply our makeup. Always Begin with Sunscreen and Moisturizer

Before you even think about applying makeup, you need to ensure that you’re properly caring for your skin. More time out in the sun means you’re at a higher risk of the sun’s harmful UV rays damaging your skin. This is why it’s crucial that you apply a 30 SPF sunscreen along with your daily moisturizer—preferably one that includes hyaluronic acid for optimal hydration. Not only will doing this help better retain your skin’s moisture, which is great for those with dry skin, but it will also stave off any future damage that could cause premature wrinkles. Once these creams are completely absorbed into your skin, you can then begin applying makeup products.

Declutter Old Makeup & Clean Tools

Most people don’t realize that cosmetics have a shelf-life. It’s important to regularly check the lifespan of your makeup and skincare products. When you use products that have expired, you can cause more damage to your skin.

You should also clean your brushes, sponges, and other beauty tools often. A buildup of product on brushes and the like can also cause breakouts.

Switch to Waterproof Formulas

Another makeup application tip for the summer is to switch out your regular, powdered makeup products for those that are designed to be waterproof. With the raised temperatures, it’s only natural that you’ll be sweating more. So, in using waterproof cream-based products rather than loose powders, it’s less likely that your makeup will smear or smudge. This will also ensure that you don’t need to constantly reapply to maintain your look throughout the day.

Be Extra Careful With Your Beauty Treatments

Specific beauty treatments are a wonderful way to tie a new style together. But if you have semi-permanent beauty treatments, such as eyelash extensions or eyebrow tints; it’s also important that you think about them when you’re applying makeup in the summer. Eyelash extensions, in particular, are especially sensitive to humidity, as they can affect how firmly the adhesive holds the lashes in place. Because of this, you’ll need to be gentler when applying eye products to keep from knocking them loose.

Apply Products Lightly

Even if you don’t have any specialized beauty treatments to care for. It’s still highly recommended that you use slightly less product when applying. This will leave your skin feeling lighter. As well as reduce the chance that your makeup will begin running as you sweat throughout the day. While thicker makeup applications can collect dirt and oils that create blemishes. If you’re a sufferer of sensitive skin, wearing less makeup is a great way to prevent effects; such as creasing or caking, and allow your skin to breathe.

  3. It’s hard to keep a fresh makeup during summer and having a very light makeup will do the trick. Thanks for sharing this great tips.

  4. Great tips. Summer make up in hot places is definitely an art form. I have at times forgone makeup in the summer because of the sweat factor. It’s incredibly annoying to have everything dripping down your face. So I agree, waterproof make-up is a must.

  5. Love this! I stick to mascara and lip gloss bc I don’t really have time! And it works for me so cleaning stays pretty simple. I love the microdermabrasion scrub I have at home!

  6. These are so critically important. Especially the base layer of sunscreen – a must do no matter what.
