5 Amazing & Fascinating Facts About Independent Artists

More and more people are diving into the world of truly independent artists. These celebrities are shrouded in mystique and we will dive into 5 Amazing & Fascinating Facts About Independent Artists

This is a sponsored post. All thoughts and opinions are 100% my own.

1: They Don’t Stick To The Stereotype

Stereotypical musicians are globe-trotting, bougie rockstars with full entourages and millions of dollars. While deserving, sometimes this level of fame can come with a cost.

There is a strong appeal towards artists that chose their own path, and ignore the stereotypes, that many people can relate to. This type of presentation shines more focus on the music itself, and less on the glamour of celebrity.

2: Independent Artists Have More Control

Creative and Career-wise, indie musicians have a lot more control than you think.

Most musicians who sign to a major mainstream label, have limited control. Their creative content may have limitations. Musicians don’t always have a say in the venues they play, tour dates, or how promotions are handled.

Independent artists who sign with independent labels tend to have more liberation with how their career is handled. This means a lesser (or, no) limit on age, appearance, band members, or the kind of music they want to play. Indie musicians can typically choose how and where they want to tour. As well as book themselves, control the ways marketing and promotions are done, and other important factors.

More and more musicians are going the indie route, signing with indie labels such as Benjy Grinberg of Rostrum Records.

Of course, knowledge is needed to make the right choice. But, this is an opportunity worth considering for someone who truly loves their music.

3:  Indie Artists Have Better Opportunities To Make Money

Musicians who own their labels will generate more money. This is because they don’t have a percentage of profits to give to the record label. They’ll be able to also sell their recordings to anyone in any way they please.

Tour ticket sales, merchandise, and licensing fees from masters will all go back to the artists as well. Gone are the days of needing to sign a major record deal, in order to “make it big.” Indie artists can master their own destinies, and make the kind of money and fame they really want.

It’s cutting out a middle man, but there are pros and cons. The indie artist must be able to book shows, promote themselves, and have a keen sense of business to be able to keep most of their profits.

4: More opportunities to collaborate with other artists.

Ever wonder why some musicians don’t make music together-especially if they share the same genre or vibe?

This is commonly due to contractual obligations set by major record companies. Because indie musicians define a lot of their careers, more opportunities to collaborate are available. And then everyone wins!

5: Innovative Ways Of Networking Through Social media

In previous years, bands and musicians would need to build their fanbase primarily, from tours. This was a slow and tedious process, as one can only play so many shows. Radio airplay (and eventually, music videos) would be another way of gathering attention from the public.

Now with the advent of social media, it’s thousands of times easier to gather a larger audience for music. Tiktok, Instagram, Facebook, and Youtube, and the best platforms where artists can gain exposure.

This is still relatively new in the areas of promotion and marketing. But allows indie artists to reach people who normally live too far away, or can’t afford, to see live shows.

Because the musicians are independent, they can control their own social media channels. No boundaries set by the record labels and no holds barred on content.
