You might have to make a lot of hard decisions for your loved ones as they get older. If your loved one is showing signs they may need home care assistance, one of these decisions might be whether you need to send them to a retirement facility. Before you make the decision, consider the benefits of home care services for your loved ones ahead.
Professional Assistance
A huge benefit of senior home care in Florida, or home care services for your loved one in your area, is that they’ll get the assistance they need from professionals. This means that someone can help around the house with chores, prepare meals, help them bathe, and so much more. Your loved one getting the personal care they deserve can go a long way.
This can be extremely important if a loved one is suffering from dementia. Routine can be vital or at the least a very big help. Having a personal care assistant can help keep your loved one on a steady schedule.
Less Time Alone
Your loved one could easily become depressed if they must spend a lot of time alone. In addition to someone to help them complete daily tasks, a home care service also gives them someone to socialize with. Spending time with your loved one can be hard with all the things going on in your own life, but home care services can help fill that void.
Socializing is actually one of the more important benefits of home care services. It’s been found that the more social activity you have in your 60’s, the risk for dementia is lowered.
Medication Management
Another important thing home care services can do for your loved one is to manage all the medications they need to take. Caregivers can make sure your loved one is taking the right medications, and they can pick them up for them as well.
It is very important to ensure that the professionals you hire to care for your family members are vetted and trained if they are going to be handling medications, however. Not all home health services have specific credentials for dealing with medication, so ask about this during your consultation.
Reduced Risk of Injury
Seniors are prone to falling and suffering other injuries at home that could be detrimental to their overall health. Having someone at home with your loved one for most of the day can reduce the risk of such injuries occurring.
If your care professional isn’t going to be home 24/7, it’s not a bad idea to look into a medical alert bracelet.
Ability to Remain Comfortable at Home
Home care also gives seniors the opportunity to spend their final years in comfort by remaining in their homes. Some people don’t like the idea of going to a retirement facility or nursing home, and they feel a sense of comfort at home—you can give them what they desire with home care services.
This is something very important you need to discuss with your loved one, and let their concerns be heard.
Remaining comfortable at home is some important. Especially for an elder.
I agree, end of life services are so important!
What an important post. There are so many things to think of and consider. I only have one living parent and he’s across the country so I don’t think I’ll have to face any of these decisions. Thank you for sharing as I’m sure these tips will be helpful to many people!
Super important post! I’m sure we all want nothing but the best for our elders!
This is a great read. Thanks for sharing. Sometimes we think it’s best to take care of our parents ourselves but actually it’s better for professionals to do it.
My grandmother has been getting home care services since she broke her hip. It really gives me peace of mind to know she is being taken care of.
We are deciding on care assistance for a family member. Very hard decision but you have to weigh your pros and cons
These are really good points to in home care. A few years ago my aunt moved in with my grandma, but last year my grandma had to go to a nursing home. It’s so hard when loved ones get too old to do the things they used to know and love to do.
These are great resources to have. It is important to rely on services for care.
There can definitely be a point in time when you just need the help.
This is so important to start looking into now that I’m an adult with aging parents. They need the best care possible in their golden years. I’m so glad I read this as I don’t even know where to start and what my options are. Thank you!
this is such an important post.. for us with parents in other countries, we do tend to worry about how/what we can help..
This option is not really popular in the Philippines but it’s a fresh insight on this topic of getting home care services for our loved ones. I totally agree that medication management is one of the key reasons why this option should be considered.
Thank you for sharing this.
Remaining comfortable at home is so important. I definitely think it’s very beneficial. Especially if your loved one live out of state or even the country. Thanks for sharing.
I agree with everything you said. It’s always good to have an extra eyes on our loved ones. My aunt cares for my grandma and when she gets busy she has someone come over to care for her. It’s always better than sending them off to a facility where they might not feel comfortable.
