Summer is nearly here, which means pool time! My son will be enjoying the pool again for the second time in life, and we are focusing on his learning to swim, this time with help from SwimWays, and the Baby Spring Float Sun Canopy.

Everyone needs to learn to swim…
And is honestly something I myself haven’t learned. Yes, I’m 29 years old, and still don’t know how to swim. I don’t have an acute fear of the water-but I do have a fear of drowning. And sharks…but mostly drowning. All because for whatever reason, I never actually took the time to learn how to swim! I was always either on a float tanning, or on the side lines…tanning. Never did get a tan…or get wet.
Luckily, this wasn’t passed on to our son, Bruce. He absolutely loves the water! Which is awesome, considering he was born in the middle of summer in south Georgia. Water will be his friend. And last year, watching him and his father splash around, really just fine for me. I kept to the shallow, no more than 5 feet end, and told myself that was good enough. I told myself I felt better staying on the sidelines. But, honestly…I need to do this. I need to learn how to swim. not just for safety…but enjoyment!
It isn’t until you go through the checklist of activities that require such knowledge, that you realize what you’re missing out on. No surfing…even though I have taken trips down river in a raft and kayak, it’s not wise if you can’t swim. Water skiing is out, and parasailing probably isn’t a good idea, either. This limits my outdoor activities, and I don’t want that happening to my child.
So this summer, I’m going to make the change, and learn to swim myself-while we introduce our baby to the water, and he begins building that knowledge as well. Because not only is swimming something I need to concur-but I need to be able to do. Anything can happen in a pool, or any body of water for that matter. All too often, accidents become fatal because someone who could have saved a drowning person’s life, couldn’t swim. Which is a much more terrifying thought than swimming could ever be for me.
So, as my son is getting more confident in the water-as will I be. better late than never, and I honestly love that SwimWays has created the National learn To Swim Day, so parents like me can have access to resources that can help!
National Learn To Swim Day
SwimWays started the National Learn To Swim Day back in 2012. They are one of the leaders in helping children learn to swim, and practice proper water safety. The main goal of this day is to educate both Parents and Children, on the benefits of learning to Swim, and how to be safe when in the water.
National Learn To Swim Day is on May 20th, (the 3rd Saturday of May, every year) and now that pools are beginning to open for the season, it’s the perfect opportunity to take your little one to the pool to begin their swimming experience. You can also check out the Teach Me To Swim website for some great resources!
Baby Spring Float Sun Canopy
SwimWays has developed the Baby Spring Float Sun Canopy, which is touted as the single best float on the market for babies. We received Step 1 (of 3), which is designed perfectly to assist with the first introduction to the water. It helps to encourage your baby to become comfortable in the water by providing stability. And within a secure float, your child will then become confident in the water, and begin their learning journey.
The Step 1 Baby Spring Float Sun Canopy, is designed with babies 9-24 months in mind; the float itself is wide, equipped with two inflatable rings to safely support baby. The mesh inner fabric and seat, allows water to pass through, and seems to be a lot more comfortable than traditional plastic floats. The sun canopy is removable, but provides UFV 50+ sun protection, which is so necessary here in the south.
Baby Spring Float Sun Canopy will easily fold back into three compact circles, and fit into it’s carry case, which is super handy for transporting back home!
What I like most about this float, is the stability. While it’s designed to put your baby into the actual water and help them become accustomed to it, it’s secure enough that you don’t have to worry about the float flipping over. And as the canopy provides plenty of shade, it doesn’t make the float top-heavy or cumbersome, either.
You can find the Baby Spring Float Sun Canopy at Target online, and in stores, in a variety of different colors! SwimWays also has a wide variety of other pool accessories!
I really enjoyed our son’s float like that. He still uses it occasionally too. I didn’t realize there was a national learn to swim day. Too bad thunderstorms are in the forecast.
This is pretty awesome. I’m not a good swimmer, but I can swim. I’d rather not when the kids are in with me though just because I’m a worry freak with them in there.. I’m constantly making sure they’re okay. My son looves the water and is more confident than I am. He hasn’t learned swimming with lessons but he’s really encouraged to learn so it’s probably something we’re going go start getting into. Thanks for sharing.
