3 Reasons To Absolutely Hate Pumpkin Spice Lattes

I’m not with the Pumpkin Spice Latte Craze…

It’s the most popular drink of the autumn season. If you don’t like it….there’s no shame involved. Pumpkin Spice Lattes aren’t for everyone.

Actually, there’s many legitimate reasons to not adore this famous drink.

As we explore them, let it be known that this is not a biased opinion.

No. Against my better judgement, I actually went out and bought the dreaded Pumpkin Spice Latte.

Because the last thing I want to do is rehash old disdain for something I tried once 5 years ago, before depositing in the trash. Where they belong.

Unfortunately, it’s as ever bit nasty now, as it was then.

So let’s break down the 5 top reasons why it’s absolutely fine to hate Pumpkin Spice Lattes…with every fiber of being.

Pumpkin & Coffee Don’t Mix

Ok, let’s clarify this statement a bit more in-depth.

Coffee is great. Pumpkin Pie is great. But I don’t want the taste of Pumpkin Pie, in my coffee.

Now, if there was only a slight hint of pumpkin, that would be one thing. I could blend this distinctive flavor within the confines of white chocolate, milk, and whip cream. Dulling its power and subduing it like content kitten with a belly of tuna.

But no – unless I’m making homemade pumpkin spice lattes, this doesn’t happen.

The average PSL (Pumpkin Spice latte) is a juggernaut. Blasting it’s spicy flavor to your mouth like the Kool-Aid Man crashing through a brick wall.

A sensory-punch of nutmeg, cinnamon, and clove, takes you over. While you gasp for air and look up at the PSL’s sweatered, basic Ugg boot-wearing silhouette, you beg for forgiveness with each sip of spiced punishment.

But the Pumpkin Spice Late whispers,”…No…”

Ok, so maybe that was a bit melodramatic. But for someone who would rather just smell pumpkin fragrance than drink it, the taste is overwhelming.

So making your own Pumpkin Spice Lattes is just a better choice if the average Starbucks drink is just too much. Or, trying a few other alternative versions…

They aren’t healthy…

Of course, health is the last thing Mom might think of when she needs a caffeine fix.

But seriously – do you know how many calories are in a Starbucks PSL? Or even the  Dunkin’ Donuts version for that matter? Over 340! Not counting whip!

All the added sugar and espresso is also havoc on your body. Remember, the aforementioned calories aren’t putting any real food in your system.

Sure, it’s a seasonal pleasure but let’s get real; Pumpkin Spice Lattes are the gateway drug of unhealthy, fattening holiday foods.

You might blame the Turkey and Christmas Cookies for those added pounds you want to shave off come New Year’s. But let’s hold responsible parties accountable for their actions. PSL’s, I’m looking at you…

Of course, you can order your PSL’s with skim milk, and even make your own at home with healthier choices. But it is what it is if you buy it from the local coffee shop. And that’s most likely way too fatty and sugary…

It’s Everywhere…

Again, a hint of pumpkin flavor is ok. But the average Pumpkin Spice Latte is like the newest overplayed Pop song.

It’s surprisingly catchy, a little forced, cannot be escaped.

Pumpkin Spice everything surrounds us each Fall. More and more brands are jumping on the trend, and release Pumpkin Flavored choices for basic consumption (No Pun Intended).

From Cookies, to Pop Tarts. Cereals, Peanut Butter, and Soda. And even Rum!

If edibles weren’t enough, you can also carry the scent of Pumpkin Spice to exist away from the coffee shop! Candles, wax melts, soaps, deodorant, even lip balms are now Pumpkin Spice.

Now while I’m cool with body scrubs and even perfume…I have to draw the line at Dog Treats. There’s a limit, you know.

It’s not wrong to surround yourself with the things you love – but for the rest of us that can’t even drink the stuff?

There can be too much of a good thing, and when literally everything that can be scented or flavored is going full PSL, the world is stomach-churning.

Luckily, there are scents that avoid pumpkin spice, but let’s not get off track here…

To Sum Up…

It’s one seasonal trend that doesn’t suit this Mom’s taste. And being subjected to it in every business, or friend’s home, in some form or another? Really drives that nail home.

And there’s nothing wrong with not liking the bandwagon that everyone else jumps on!

“But I like Pumpkin Spice…”

That’s awesome! Really – because life is just too short to not enjoy the simplest of pleasures.

Like a homemade Pumpkin Cream Cheese Appetizer (which honestly sounds amazing, even to me!).

Or try your hand at making a Skinny Pumpkin Spice Frappe  or even adrn yourself in Pumpkin Spice apparel.

Whatever your stance is, remember this; it’s your stance. Do what you wanna do! And be proud of it!

Except feed your dog those treats…because Dogs don’t eat pumpkin. Not even once.

  1. It is amazing how many foods incorporate pumpkin into them during the fall! Trader Joes even sells pumpkin tortilla chips! I do love pumpkin spice in small doses, but usually just drink plain lattes. I may need to find a healthier way to make a pumpkin spice latte for an every now and then treat this fall though.

  2. I am not a fan of it either. I love the smell of it, pumpkin pie, and other pumpkin stuff but the latte is just eh to me too.
