Halloween isn’t just about candy.

It’s about snuggling under the blankets and enjoying a good scary movie! Or even, a light-hearted, funny movie!

Here’s some of the top rated kid-friendly Halloween or Horror Themed movies everyone can enjoy!

10: Casper (1995)

Starring Christina Ricci and Bill Pullman, this live-action ode to the classic cartoon is a must-see for any kid!

A young girl moves into a haunted mansion, inhabited by 3 scary ghosts who want all the humans out of the house! And one friendly little spirit named Casper, who just wants a friend.

Sure, the special effects are a little dated by today’s standards, but be honest; you loved this as a kid, too! It’s a great addition to any Halloween lineup!

9: The Witches (1990)

This one may be just a little intense for the very young… everyone knows Witches have a bit of a reputation. Especially when it comes to killing and eating children. So what happens when one little boy discovers an entire coven within his hotel?

Quality wise, again, the special effects don’t last the test of time. But still shocking to small kids – so be prepared! And remember, there’s always a happy ending!

8: Pooh’s Heffalump Halloween Movie (2005)

Winnie the Pooh is loved by everyone – show me one person who doesn’t love that silly old bear! This movie is perfect for toddlers, without being super scary!

When Pooh eats all the Halloween candy, a chain of events begins during the quest to find a scary Gobloon!

7: The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)

Ok, so my generation grew up on this one. It’s halloween, but doubles as Christmas? Yes, because it’s an amazing movie!

I will admit as a kid, this one freaked me out a bit. But always a happy ending, and perfect to send off halloween and get excited for Christmas! And it’s available for streaming with Amazon Prime!

6: Gremlins (1984)

Continuing with the trend of Hallo-xmas (because really, what’s creepier than scary things happening during Christmas?), we have Gremlins.

The scary factor is pumped up a little more of this one, as the special effects are still pretty good, considering.

Older kids will enjoy the humor, while the young ones will be delightfully entertained without being up all night.

5: Labyrinth (1986)

Targeted at ages 8+, this Jen Henson classic is a nice touch of nostalgia for the season.

David Bowie stars as the King of Goblins who takes a young boy away after his older sister wishes him gone. There’s a lesson, so this shouldn’t give the kids ideas… *Available streaming*

3: HalloweenTown (1998)

Yes, we knew this was going to be on the list! because what says Halloween better than discovering Grandma is a witch…and lives in Halloween Town!
