My Experience in The First Year As A Mommy Blogger

It’s my Blogger-versary!

So today marks my first year starting my Mommy Blogger journey. It’s been an amazing experience, and I’ve learned a lot. Still have more to go, but it’s not over yet. Blogging started as a way to keep me awake during late night feedings with my infant son. Now, we embark on Toddler years, and my experience as a writer gains strength.

Some things I’ve learned as a “Mommy Blogger”

I get asked this weekly; how do I become a blogger? One might have many reasons for starting a blog. Like myself, you might just want a creative outlet. You may be a professional in some certain area, and be willing to share knowledge. Some blog just to express their passions. Whatever the case may be, I can tell you this. While you aren’t alone, and you may find hundreds, if not thousands of other bloggers in your niche, don’t let that be a stopping point!

Put five Mommy Bloggers in the same room with one topic, and you’ll get five different answers. That’s the beauty of blogging! Each of those five answers will resonate differently within their own audiences! Whatever your niche might be, someone is willing to listen.

Don’t be afraid of your content

By this, I mean to say…don’t be afraid of what you want to write about. If it’s something you feel strongly about, go for it! While as of yet, I’ve never received negative feedback on my posts, I’m always aware that someone people just won’t always agree with you. Just as there is every type of Mommy Blogger out there, the same goes for the audience and content. Some might love your work. Other’s won’t. A few might miss the point entirely! It doesn’t matter. All that matters, are those that do find your words useful. And the internet is full of salty trolls, who nourish themselves by the negativity. Don’t feed them. Just keep doing you.

Know Your Worth

Every writers words are worth something. Be it either monetary, or just helping someone through a tough situation. In the last year, I’ve become overwhelmed by the support, and gratitude I’ve received with my posts! Parents thanking me for recommending a product that helped them. Mother’s who were happy someone else out there, understood their struggle. The comments and messages I get from my readers, who simply loved a post that helped them in some way (even if just for a laugh) is probably better than any amount of money. No, they don’t buy me Starbucks, but hey…I’ll live.

It’s too easy to get bogged down in the rat race of monetizing though. And “success stories” that are intended to encourage, can really get to you if you aren’t seeing the same growth. You can’t let the success of other bloggers hold you back! Especially if it causes you to forget why you began blogging in the first place. There is no blueprint for success, and you can’t hold yourself to anyone’s else’s example. Real success comes in many forms, not just financial. If you wanted to become a Mommy Blogger, and you began writing, then you’ve succeeded!

You must keep pushing yourself!

The most important thing I’ve learned, is to keep grinding. Maybe one post doesn’t do so well the first week you’ve published. Doesn’t mean it won’t find traction later. Maybe at one point you’ve changed your style or target audience. There are all kinds of Mommy Bloggers out there, and you’ll find your place. But you have to keep pushing yourself! Create those goals, and don’t stop until you meet them!

I honestly can’t wait to see what the next year brings. I’ve worked with some amazing bloggers and brands. More importantly, I’ve built my self-confidence and creativity.

And i want to say a huge THANK YOU to all my followers and subscribers!!! Without you, this blog couldn’t be possible! Because regardless of any monetary success, it all starts with that first page view and positive comment. And if you are considering becoming a Mommy Blogger yourself, keep that in mind. Once you know you’ve touched one person with your post, you’ve succeeded! Don’t sweat the other stuff.

  1. Congratulations on your blog anniversary!.It is a lot of work to complete one year. But,worth the time spent!

  2. Thanks for reminding me not to forget about my content because after all, it is why I started blogging in the first place.I just started and while I’d love to earn money from my writing, I don’t want to “sell out.”We’ll see what happens but posts like this make me hopeful.Happy Anniversary!

  3. Must keep pushing. It’s so nice to hear somebody at that year point reminding of these things. There are days when I think I’m just wasting my time, no good at this, and I should quit. This is a great reminder that I have an audience , I just need to find them.

  4. As someone who just started a blog i definitely find this insight helpful. Glad your enjoying it still!
