Why Pregnancy Is Not The Time To Make Excuses

The following is the second guest post on this blog by Vanessa, of Fit Foodie Mom Life! It’s always a pleasure to read her posts, and this one has some excellent points about pregnancy, and exercise! This post contains affiliate links.

Pregnancy & Your Workout Routine

We all know maintaining an exercise program and/or routine is huge and greatly affects the body. Working out clears the brain, enhances the body’s performance, and increases an individual’s self-confidence. If all this is true, then why don’t more people workout?

Brazilian Belles Tea and Body Wraps Review

Brazilian Belles Slimming & Lemontox Tea, and Volcanic Clay Body Wraps

This is a sponsored post, in which I received free product from Brazilian Belles in exchange for an honest review. This post also contains affiliate links. My opinion is 100% mine and is not swayed by affiliates, or the sponsors.

Ok, so first, I know what you’re thinking; My god, Jasmine, you don’t need to lose any weight! Well, I 100% agree with you. But first, let me explain the story before we get on with the review.

So during the holidays, my wonderful husband loves complaining about his weight. Apparently, he doesn’t realize how lucky he is to have a wife that not only cooks for him, but cooks well. He hasn’t had to make his own sandwich in years (I’ll let you decipher that however you wish!). But, he tends to blame my cooking for his growing tummy. Even as much as I remind him we aren’t in our young 20’s anymore, and it’s been a while since he was in the Marines.

So when I had the opportunity to try these products, I of course tried to use my husband as a guinea pig. Because honestly, I’m 110lbs. I don’t have weight to lose! Plus, I’m very active, so it’s harder for me to attribute significant loss or maintenance to any one thing. Hubs was all for it…until it arrived. And I just couldn’t get him to submit! I’m pretty sure it was included in our wedding vows, but I could be wrong. Anyway, it wasn’t working.

My Goal…

Now, all that being said – I do maintain a certain little thing I like to call, my Mommy Pooch. My belly area is a big bigger since having a baby, although I retain none of the weight I gained in my thighs, hips, or arms during pregnancy. These products are aimed at specifically the belly area, so I thought Hey, this might help me tone down! So, I decided I’d have to take one for the team, and try this stuff myself to see how it worked!

 Brazilian Slimming Tea

This Slimming Tea you drink 15-30 minutes before meals, and throughout the day whenever you’re feeling hungry. The bags are labeled for you, so you drink the right blend at the right time. The only part I disliked about this system, was the “replacement” part. That’s because my philosophy has always been, if you’re hungry-eat. If you’re not hungry, don’t eat. BUT-I did notice it suppress those urges for a snack during the day. Which, during the holiday season (while I tried these products), it did help me from getting that third helping of pie that was calling from the kitchen. Again, I don’t endorse not eating! But I did notice an effect while drinking these teas, that did help to make me feel fuller during meals.

Lemontox Tea

Brazilian Belle also makes this Lemontox detox tea. It’s to be drunk immediately upon waking for two days in a row, resting on a third day. So I know what you’re thinking-and yes, after downing two cups of tea, I really had to pee in the mornings! Because I was also drinking the slimming tea, I couldn’t really tell any difference with this tea. But, it’s supposed to help rid you of the toxins built up within your body. One good thing I can say, is that the flavor isn’t overpowering with lemon.

Volcanic Clay Body Wrap

This pre-mixed clay solution is to be applied over the belly, back, arms, or really anywhere you have a problem area. Wrap tightly, and relax for an hour. It washes off easily in the shower, but don’t exceed the application time. Only takes an hour. And it does have a strong tingling sensation when applied. To be repeated every 72 hours, or when you have a big event and want to slim down a little.

Conclusion?

So my original weight before trying these Brazilian Belles products, was at my normal 110lbs that I’ve maintained my whole adult life, even post-baby (after losing 50lbs following my son’s birth). Eating Christmas Ham, and cookies, and those awesome little Lindor chocolates that my husband knows I love-and all the trimmings that came with dinner…all while drinking the teas and using the body wrap every 72 hours. My results?

110lbs soaking wet.

Now, I am a pretty active person, and my weight does tend to gain a little bit if I slack off and forgo yoga and jogging. And with the business of the holidays, I had little time for my workouts. So, while I did NOT lose weight (thankfully), I also didn’t have any weight gain. Which, given all the extra dinners and sweets around Christmas, I’m surprised. I did notice some appetite suppressant with the teas, but also increased energy. As far as per-pound weight loss, I have nothing to report.

THAT DOESN’T MEAN THE TEAS DON’T WORK. They just didn’t show anything incredibly significant, other than my weight didn’t change at all, even with a decrease in my workout routine. Which I am thankful for, because I don’t exercise to lose weight. I do it to stay healthy.

But what about your Mommy Pooch?

The volcanic body wrap, however, did nothing for my stomach. I was very disappointed in my pooch. I had said goodbye to it, wished it well, but that damn thing is still here. Oh well. That’s also not to say it wouldn’t work for someone else – it may just be that with my body type, I’m not big enough in that area for a significant result.

So, I would recommend the teas to those wishing, with proper diet and exercise, to  cleanse and slim down their weight. Unfortunately, as the Volcanic Clay did nothing for me, I must make peace with my Mommy Pooch.

But I do want to thank Brazilian Belles for giving me the opportunity to try all these products, and I want to know from my readers; have you tried any of these teas or clay wraps? How did you like them?

ZENBand & ZENTones Program Review

ZENBand & ZENTones Programs by Blooming Wellness – Review

This is a sponsored post in which I received free products (A ZENBand and ZENTones Programs) in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are 100% my own!

As we all know, stress and anxiety are killers. And if you’re married, or a parent, then you probably have a small amount of stress, in the very least. So when I found the ZENBand by Blooming Wellness, I became naturally intrigued. What I thought was just a cute, stylish headband, turned out to be a lot more!

What is the ZENBand?

The ZENBand headband is perfect for working out and relaxing!

The ZENBand itself is a lightweight, cotton headband. Designed for relaxation during exercise, or rest periods. It’s incredibly comfortable and I love it’s Bohemian style. Plus, I can wear it no matter how my hair is done (or not done) for the day, which is a BIG plus.  Another really cool added feature to the design, are the earphones! Most earbuds tend to fall out of my ears easily. These, are flat, easily sliding into the back of the band. They don’t put any pressure on my ears, and I don’t have to worry about them falling out. The sound quality is amazing, and I think I like them better than my Beats (shhhh…).

Another cool thing about the ZENBand – the cotton is infused with lavender essential oils to promote relaxation, which aids the stress and anxiety programs, but more about that in a minute.

I’ve been wearing this during my morning run, working around the house, and even going to the store while my hair is hideous. It’s cute, it’s comfortable, and something I could really wear all the time!

Ok, so what are ZENTones?

The ZENTone programs are designed to help someone with sleep, anxiety, depression, headaches, stress, and focus. They use nature sounds, rhythms, waves and tones, to help the listener relax and focus. I’ve been using these various programs while exercising, writing, and meditating.

The Nap Time program is awesome at night – I’ve always had trouble sleeping. Especially while pregnant; any kind of “nature app” that would play rain or waterfall noises, would be the only thing to lull me to sleep! I’ve been using the ZENBand with their NapTime Fall Asleep program (putting the band over my eyes, which also helps block out light), and it helps get me to a point I can shut my phone off, and just go to sleep.

I thought all of their programs were pleasant, and really did help me to focus on my work, or take a breather when needed.

So if this sounds like something you’d benefit from, check out the Blooming Wellness website, as well as the official ZENBand Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. If you have a ZENBand, let me know how you like it! I know I’m in love with mine, and it’ll be a staple to my workout, and meditation routine!

And, of course, a really big thanks to Blooming Wellness for letting me try these awesome products!

5 New Year’s Resolutions Worth Keeping in 2017

This post contains affiliate links, by which I get a small percentage of sales. But all opinions are my own, and the price of items isn’t enhanced by the link.

Need ideas for resolutions?

With 2017 just around the corner, why not make a few New Year’s Resolutions you can actually keep?

I’m the worst at keeping them-I try to become more organized, and it’s a fail. I try to keep myself from buying more shoes, when I have PLENTY of shoes, and that’s ruined in the first month. Stop drinking wine? Forget it.

So with that in mind, I’ve compiled 5 resolutions; focusing on health, happiness, and success, for the New Year. These are totally worth making…and keeping!

2017 New Year’s Resolutions

1: Practice Mindfulness (by Keeping a Journal)

When we think “mindfulness,” thoughts of consideration towards others is usually what comes to mind. But in all actuality, it’s really about considering oneself-in the moment.  It’s about forgetting the stresses and troubles, and focusing through breathing and meditation, on exactly what we are thinking and feeling right now. Granted, this can be hard to do when you’re super busy – but the benefits are astounding! Stress reduction is exactly what everyone needs in their life. So to start my own mindfulness journey, I’ve planned on incorporating a journal in 2017.

Keeping a mindfulness journal is just one of a few New Year's Resolutions worth making and keeping
This journal can help you simplify the process, if you aren’t used to practicing mindfulness. Each entry has a guiding tip that can help you focus on the moment you are writing in. And if you just can’t commit every day, it’s ok to just pick up where you left off. The most important part is to stop, and breathe. Writing can still be a form of creative meditation, and this is a great way to get those juices flowing.

2: Stop sweating the small stuff

This New Year’s Resolution can help you remember the real goals in life, and stop focusing on the minor details. Easier said than done, but something worth working towards. All too often, we become wrapped up in the little things that cause a lot more stress than what it’s worth. Negative comments and judgements other people make. Goals that aren’t met quite as soon as you intended. Unless it’s a matter of life or death, nothing trivial is worth causing more stress in your life. Once you can brush off anything that isn’t of a benefit to your life, your health and mind will thank you.

3:Maintain an active lifestyle

Yes, exercising every day can be hard to work into an already busy routine. But, this New Year’s Resolution isn’t just about exercising. An active lifestyle really only needs one thing-activity. And that can be cardio…or yoga…or even just walking. The point is to get moving! If I found I haven’t had time for a run in a few days, or I just haven’t dedicated yoga time, I do have a few tricks up my sleeve. Like purposefully parking the car as far away from the grocery store as possible. It’s my opportunity to get a few extra steps in. If I’m pushing a giant cart a few minutes later, it’s even better! It’s a workout I never would have had otherwise.

You don’t have to adopt a new workout routine, to make a few adjustments that requires a little more activity in your lifestyle.

The Fitbit-a useful tool when making New Year's Resolutions to begin exercising and staying active
Which brings us to the Fitbit – these things are seriously awesome! It can record workouts you already do, and keep track of your heart rate and burned calories. There’s an all day and auto-sleep tracker, so even if you don’t have a dedicated routine, every step you take can still count. And there’s a reminder to get you moving more when you’ve been resting on your laurels too long! This Fitbit even comes with a guided breathing session, which totally helps with practicing your mindfulness!  It works with both Apple and Android products, so you don’t have to worry about compatibility. The call, text, and calendar features can help keep your phone out of your hands, and your body moving, as well.

4: Stick to your goals

Keeping your eye on the prize can sometimes be difficult to maintain. The stresses of life can hinder us from reaching our goal, if we allow them to set us back. Of course, there’s always a few pitfalls along the way;but nothing worthwhile is ever easy.

One of your New Year’s Resolutions, should be to always keep your focus on your goals, no matter how many fails, setbacks, and detours. Once you succeed, all the headache endured will be worth it. But first, you must not allow yourself to lose sight of that goal.

5:  Get Happy

Out of all these New Year’s Resolutions, this is probably both the easiest, and hardest, to incorporate. But be it a career, or a goal, or a passion, or a connection – find out what truly makes you Happy. And don’t give it up.

You might find true happiness in your family, your job, a hobby, or a future achievement. But whatever you find your personal joy within, is worth investing everything in.

We tend to leave behind some of the things we once found happiness in, when the demands of Life take over. But take the time to invest in what really makes you happy – because your health, mental well-being, and success, all stem from that. Only after giving up Happiness, do we succumb to Anger, Guilt, Negativity, Stress, and Sadness. As long as you don’t give up what really brings you joy, you’ll succeed in everything! And that’s worth carrying into a brand new year.

So these are just my ideas for making New Year’s Resolutions worth making and keeping, even for a few year’s to come. Have you made any yet?

5 New Year's Resolutions Worth Making and Keeping

Motivational Workout Pointers

Need to motivation to start working out again? I was recently talking with Vanessa about how entirely unmotivated I become (and stay!) about developing a workout routine. Her words really helped me, and I encourage you to read them and get moving! Vanessa has an awesome blog, Fitfoodiemomlife, and I’m so happy we could have her posting here today!
By Vanessa G.
Exercising is one of those things that I absolutely LOVE! And when I say that I am definitely not over exaggerating.
Putting in a good workout is something for this mama and I definitely need an avenue to escape every single day. I’m a fulltime mama (is there any other kind?) and I literally chase little feet, wipe dirty chins, wash peanut buttery fingers, and change poopy diapers all day long. I rarely have a chance to just breathe or sit down and when I do sit down it’s usually playing with my son. In fact, my son is the one who motivates me to workout. That little chubby 15 month old doesn’t even know it but he’s the one who literally kicks me in the butt every single morning. Many times I want to pull the covers over my head, throw the alarm clock out of the room, and go right back to sleep. But then I think, “I want to be a healthy mommy! I want my son to make healthy decisions!” And so I always get up and grab my shoes and kick butt in the garage.
I understand that not everyone grew up with a daily exercise regimen and so I have a few pointers and maybe motivational key points that might help you begin to move that beautiful body of yours!
  •  “I’m not a morning person!” This is perfectly okay and please, DO NOT beat yourself up for not getting out of bed before 7, or 8 or maybe even 9 (if you can sleep past 9am, please email me because I want to know your mama trick!). You don’t have to workout first thing in the morning, just start out with a walk or after brushing your teeth in the morning and evening time push yourself to do a 15-30 second plank. Those basic moves will kick start your body.
  •   “It’s too late. I will never be thin again!” MYTH! MYTH! MYTH! You can do absolutely anything you want as long as the mind is up for the change. Just by walking 20-30 minutes a day you will train your body to do some extra moving and you might be amazed to see how good it feels! Not everyone can start off with a high intensity workout. Start slow and gradually increase your activity. Don’t ever tell yourself you can’t because you better darn right believer you can!
  •   “Cardio is boring and too hard!” I agree. Cardio sucks! Try mixing up your workout routine if the thought of having to do cardio discourages you from even trying. Maybe do a high intense move (burpees, jumping jacks, high knees, lateral jumps, etc.) for 30 seconds and then move to the weights for 10 reps. This up and down heart rate interval training is super beneficial to weight loss.
  • “I get bored!” Okay, I can understand that. So maybe think of a friend or another mom who is in the same boat as you. Reach out to her and start a workout routine together. Doing this will force you to stick to your commitment because the other mama has a schedule to follow too!
I listed a few of the excuses most people seem to have (I’ve thought them before too!) but it’s now time to kick yourself in the butt and run after what you want most. If you want those slim legs or if the muffin top bothers you, then stop complaining about it and actually do something about it. You can’t complain about your issues if you never work against them. I know it’s so easy to tell yourself you’ll just do it tomorrow. Because who doesn’t have a baby who wakes up during the night? Or who doesn’t deal with the annoying bladder that screams in your face at 3am—just another one of the changes that occur after birth. I know. I get it all. But not doing anything for you actually discourages you more than you realize and moving your body 20-30 minutes every day will do lots for your mama brain!

Get moving mama. No workout will ever be a regret!
