This is a sponsored post but all thoughts and opinions are 100% my own.

Being a Stay At Home Mom Can be Tough…

Especially if you quit your job in order to raise children.  We all make sacrifices when deciding to take the plunge into Motherhood. Sometimes, we even choose to leave our careers behind. It’s not necessarily a bad thing; but what if you could create a new career opportunity, while keeping your role as a Stay At Home parent? That’s where the beauty of becoming a successful freelancer comes in!

What is a Freelancer?

By definition, a Freelancer is someone who offers services for a fee. But unlike other positions, this individual is self-employed, and able to take on as many clients as they wish.

This can be the perfect career for the new stay at home mom, who wants to earn income. No time cards, no schedules (except for your own), no worries!

Unlike MLMs, and other “get rich quick” schemes, this is something you do need a skill set for – not everyone can just “do it.” But if you’re a creative Mama, with a flair for writing, designing, and creativity, then Freelancing might be for you!

Is this a fairly new phenomena?

Not at all! there’s tons of successful freelancers out there. And, you can start from the most humble beginnings.

While sometimes it’s easy to get discouraged by the success of others (especially those that aren’t trying to parent at home). But I find being a stay at home mom will not be a hindrance, but an asset! I get the best of both words – my career, and my family! Neither one are going anywhere!

How Do You Get Started As A Freelancer?

  • Define Your Goals – decide what it is you want. Few extra bucks? Full-fledged career? If you don’t know where you’re going, you can’t begin your journey.
  • Discover Your Talent – do you have a talent for writing? Are you an artist? Can you code websites like no one’s business? After you find exactly what your craft is, you’ve taken a major step towards becoming a Freelancer, and getting paid to do what you’re good at.
  • Pick a Niche – maybe photography is your thing, and you’ve discovered you’re much better at working with pets, than people. Maybe your passion for travel has you excited to write about all the different places you’ve visited, along with some helpful tips for traveling with kids. Once you find your exact niche, the door is open for possibility!
  • Build a Portfolio – every successful freelancer has examples of their work. Put together a few pieces of completed projects, in website form (because everyone is found on the internet). List your rates and contact information as well.
  • Seek your first clients – it doesn’t hurt to reach out, especially if it’s someone you really want to work with.  Find people who would be genuinely interested in what you have to offer, and make your services would be mutually beneficial. Be prepared to hear a few “No’s”, but keep in mind that without trying, you’ll never hear a “Yes!”

But can I do this while remaining a stay at home mom?

YES! Just like anything with Life, even your new career as a successful freelancer requires a few things. Balance, determination, grace, and a little planning. It is entirely possible to create and maintain success in both family, and work!
