Dermarollers & Microneedling – What You Need To Know

Dermarollers & Microneedling…

In the quest to stop the sands of time and slow the aging process, the skincare industry has developed some pretty innovative techniques. I recently researched Dermarollers & Microneedling. And this is what I found, and what you should know, before trying it yourself…

This is a sponsored post. However, all opinions are 100% my own, and you should consult with a dermatologist before attempting anything you read in this post. Please see full disclosure page for more info.

What’s a dermaroller?

The practice of microneedling with dermarollers isn’t fairly new, but has become very popular among celebrities. The practice of microneedling, is to lightly puncture the skin with very small holes, forcing your pores to open. Once opened, your body’s natural healing process is triggered, causing collagen and elastin production to begin the task of helping regenerate new skin cells. In lay terms; you take a medieval looking paint-roller brush over your face to lightly injure it, and force your skin to start healing itself.Derma Roller System

Are Dermarollers safe?

That is open to debate and opinion, as most health and beauty products. it also depends on who you are asking. While the FDA hasn’t cleared the use of these products, they also wouldn’t technically get too involved because a dermaroller isn’t an actual Drug or Food. it is, however, a medical tool, and they have given the ok to use by professionals for cosmetic reasons. But across the board, most medical professionals agree to stay away from home microblading and home microneedling. On the flip side, the derma roller systemsupporters of Dermarollers in general, have used them at home, and as long as you are using them correctly, and safely buy products following strict guidelines, they praise the ability to remove acne scars, stretch marks, wrinkles, and create an overall more “youthful” appearance. When not done correctly, on the proper areas of your body, you can cause…

  • Scarring
  • Infection
  • Breakage of Needles

So really, it all depends on who you ask. I’m going to recommend that you consult with a licensed dermatologist before attempting any at home product that involves needles, and your face. That being said, I did not listen to a dermatologist (who wanted over $600 to injure my face but did instruct me on how to use a dermaroller) I did take in account what hundreds of other beauty bloggers have said, and  tried this product, from Dermarollersystem.com, and here’s my experience…

My Dermaroller Experience…

You can do a treatment up to 5 times a week if you’re using the smallest needle sizes. I actually ended up getting the 1.5mm size, which should probably really by used by a professional if you aren’t sure how to do this. This size boarders what’s recommended for at home use, and in-office use. With my size roller, you can only do a treatment every 3 to 4 weeks, if you’re going to attempt one at home. It also came with a collagen mask, but I have been using store bought collagen masks and creams in other treatments.

Over the last month, using my regular skincare regimen, collagen masks, and the Derma Roller (ever so carefully) I have noticed a difference in the quality of my skin! My pores are smaller, my face has a healthier glow, and using a dermaroller has improved it’s overall appearance.

The process itself isn’t comfortable per se, but also isn’t painful when done correctly. KEEP IN MIND THIS IS INVASIVE as far as microneedling goes, and should be done with careful deliberation and extreme caution. And it’s worth consulting a dermatologist first!
