5 Reasons I Love Being A Stay At Home Mom

I Love Being A Stay At Home Mom!

And I mean that with all sincerity. There’s negative connotation connected with not only being a stay at home mom, but what the title entails. So I am sharing my Top 5 Reasons I Love Being A Stay At Home Mom, and sharing some words of encouragement for those who have chose not to return to the workforce.

I’m catching every moment!

Every first word, first steps, and first moment of joy. Every first fear, scare, and tantrum. I’m experiencing it all. Being at stay at home mom has enabled me to be there for almost virtually every moment. Infancy goes by pretty fast, and now that we are embarking on full-on Toddlerhood, I’m cherishing all the “firsts” that much more.

Same Things But Different Days!

Consistency is key when it comes to children. They thrive from it! So being a stay at home mom has enabled me to set a pretty standard routine. And a good expectation of the day. The schedule varies from time to time; if the kid goes to Grandma’s for the day, or Daddy wakes earlier and prepares breakfast first. But for the most part, one thing is seldom changed; Mommy’s home. So I like to think that my consistent presence has instilled not only a sense of security, but a standard expected routine. And kids love routine! It’s great to stray every once in a while, but I honestly think my son does better knowing he can depend on Mommy to feed him lunch, give him a bath, etc. Because he’s used to it, less fuss (usually).

I have “me” time!

Yes, being a stay at home mom can become a boring routine at times. And it sucks when you have little to no adult interaction. And you’re reduced to watching kid television and reading Dr. Seuss.

But, you have the ability to schedule in your own “me” personal time, without sacrificing family time. I catch up on hobbies, or my blog, at nap/bed times. Friend wants to have lunch? Come over! Or, I’ll meet you, toddler in tow, at Chik-Fil-A. He will get in the ball pit, we’ll catch up, it’s a great time. Point being, even though my day as a parent is busy, it’s so much easier to squeeze in that self-care time when I’m home all day. Might be during a two hour nap…might be a 10 minute shower. I get it where I can, but fortunately, I don’t have to worry about it affecting my work schedule.

No Babysitter/Daycare Fees!

This is a very well known struggle for working parents. The constant need for a reliable sitter. Granted, when I need to take care of errands that I can’t bring my kid along for, I’m looking for that sitter. But the “I kinda want a sitter this week,” feeling is very different than the “OMG I need a sitter so I can go to work!” feeling. The cost of childcare is not cheap – but so very necessary for so many families. I’m very grateful to not have to worry about this, or dedicate so much of my paycheck towards it.

I’m forming a bond!

Every parent has a bond with their child, regardless if they work outside the home or not. But I’m fortunate that I could begin my bonding with my son, and not have to interrupt our routine by returning to work. I feel that by being a stay at home mom from the beginning, our bond has been strengthened. I didn’t have the anxieties some Moms face when returning to work-because I was with him every moment. It’s something I truly cherish and try not to take for granted.

It’s okay to be a stay at home mom!

I have so much admiration for Mother’s who returned to their jobs and careers! But when I became pregnant with my son, we were moving anyway, so I went ahead and quit my job. We were fortunate that I didn’t need to return. In today’s world of “Oh, you need to be more than just a Mom,” or “You’re just a stay at home mom, you don’t do anything,” we need to find the positive within our role. We are more than just stay at home moms. We are providers of love and nurturers of little minds. We still have the ability to be ourselves!

And it’s ok to be a Working Mom too. No one is any better than the other.

So, new mom who is struggling with the decision of choosing which type of Mom to be, and the seasoned Mom having doubts about her choice; remember this. I just explained my reasons for loving being a stay at home mom. That doesn’t cast a shadow on anyone else’s reasons for staying home…or returning to work. We all try to make the best decisions for our families and ourselves. I think it’s important to weigh all the opinions and do what’s best in your mind-no one else’s.

  1. Love this. It can be so easy to get consumed by the SAHM grind and forget why we’re doing it in the first place. Thanks for the reminder 🙂
