Parenting In The Real World

Everyone has their own opinions on the best ways to parent – much like everyone has their own way of boiling an egg. Whatever it takes to get the job done – and no way is any better than other. But, it never hurts to gain perspective on someone else’s method. I had the chance to review the new book, it’s full title being “Parenting In The Real World; The Rules Have Changed. Drop The Guilt. Handle Any Parenting Situation in 7 Simple Steps.” A mouthful-but isn’t that what parenting is?

Honesty

That’s the feel I get from this book. yes, it’s written by a Clinical Psychologist, but it’s also written by a Mother. So these suggestions aren’t coming just from a professional viewpoint-but a real parenting perspective. The scenarios are real, and the solutions have a truthful ring to them.  Another value I appreciate, is the lack of scientific jargon – it’s easy to relate to the situations in this book, and easy to understand how to implement her ideas on handling them.

Real Situations For All Ages

Another thing I love about this book, along with the fact it uses real life issues all parents face (miscommunication, respect, establishing limits). It’s appropriate for any age! Whether your children have grown into their tweens, or just starting out as toddlers (like mine), you can use the pointers and tactics in this book for the rest of their childhood. And an additional thing I love about this book-all the emphasis isn’t solely placed on children. This isn’t a “how to make your kids better” kind of book. The tips inside can help you become a better parent. We all need reminders to help guide us along the way. And this is a no-judgement book, so every suggestion is given with a comfortable tone.

Interactive!

I’ve never seen this in a parenting book before, but Parenting In The Real World is actually interactive! You download a QR Code reader on your smartphone, and when each section is scanned, you will be taken to a video for that chapter. It really adds to the personal aspect of this book, and it’s author.

When I was pregnant, I read a lot of books. Baby books, bratty kid books, “how not to be a crappy parent” books. This wasn’t anything like those. This is good. This book is real. And I totally recommend it to anyone just looking for a fresh perspective on this whole parenting thing.
